Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson was born in Paris France to British parents Jacqueline Luesby and Chris Watson, both lawyers. As a young girl of just five, she moved to Oxfordshire and enrolled at an Oxfordshire-based Dragon School. Emma chose to be an actor at age six. Through the years, she attended the Oxford Branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts part-time school. In the school, she was taught singing, dancing and acting. At the age of ten, she took part and played the leading role in a number of Stagecoach School plays and productions. Casting began in 1999 to cast Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2001) the movie adaptation of British author J.K. Rowling's bestselling novel. Emma was initially discovered as a casting agent through her Oxford drama instructor. David Heyman told Emma along with Rupert Grint, Daniel Radcliffe after they all had eight straight auditions. Emma's first appearance in a film was with Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone in the year 2001. The film set records on the opening weekend and numbers, and was the top-grossing 2001 film. The film has been praised by critics for its film, as well as the performance by three young actors. The widely distributed British paper The Daily Telegraph called her performance as admirable. Emma's performance received nominations and was awarded five awards for the movie.
